Research at the IMB aims to find answers to urgent future questions from the perspective of solid construction and consequently to make a valuable contribution in the context of all disciplines of civil engineering. In this context, the main focus is on issues such as CO2 reduction, resource scarcity, urbanization as well as transport and energy infrastructure.
For this purpose, the following topics and areas will be addressed:
- Design and dimensioning rules for reinforced and particle-reinforced concrete components
- Crack and deformation behavior for reinforced and prestressed concrete components
- Behavior of structures under earthquake loading and strengthening methods
- Structural dynamic analysis of bridges and wind turbines
- Monitoring systems for bridges and wind turbines
- Evaluation possibilities of existing structures
- High-performance materials: fiber composites, carbon concrete, carbon prestressing, high-strength and ultra-high-strength concretes
- Lightweight structures: prestressed shell and sandwich elements made of high-performance materials
- Development of modular systems for building construction and civil engineering
- Application and development of new manufacturing techniques in solid construction
- High-performance materials, lightweight structures, evaluation possibilities of existing structures, modular systems and new manufacturing techniques are being researched.
These areas are investigated using experimental, theoretical and numerical methods. We carry out basic and applied research projects as well as industrial contract and development work.
